Open Whistles
Since i have been making ceramic instruments, i have been concentrating on closed vessel flutes as they are one octave lower than open flutes, which gives you the opportunity to build compact, low sounding instruments. The downsize with vessel flutes is that you cannot overblow them and that their range is limited, which also can be a benefit again if you want to build easy to play instruments. The freedom lies within its limitations… My good old friend Geert Jacobs, a gifted Dutch Ceramic flute maker, shared his knowledge with me just before he unfortunately past away last year. We will miss his beautiful instruments but i hope i can continue his legacy by adding the Open Whistle to my collection, though in my own style and variations like Irish Whistles, Bansuri, Native style and various open double flutes.
