The ZENflute is played by exhaling slowly with a soft, long sigh, similar to breathing out gently and slowly. The sound is produced when all mouth muscles are completely relaxed, which is the opposite of how other blowhole instruments are played. Achieving this relaxed technique can be challenging, but once mastered, it creates a relaxation effect both through the act of playing and the soothing sound produced. If played with too much mental focus instead of an open heart, the mouth muscles may tense, causing the sound to disappear. This encourages you to shift your awareness from your mind back to your body, enhancing the meditative experience.

We use our own specially designed techniques to decorate our instruments, avoiding any use of chemicals. Our instruments are made from pure clay, and we decorate them with several layers of homemade Terra Sigillata. This very fine milky clay solution is made from the finest clay particles we gather from different spots along our nearby river, providing us with a range of natural colors after firing. Next, we use a soap bubble technique, which involves several different colors of Terra Sigillata, infused with gold or copper colored Mica which creates unique patterns and a mother-of-pearl effect when light shines on our instruments.
